Psycho Craze

When I had been to UMA theatre for watching MAADESHA, in the interval time, an interesting thing happened.. They started showing one trailer.. The moment I saw the banner name, I was sure that it was PSYCHO triler.. But, most of the audience were clueless.. But, when Neene Beku song part appeared, it was as if some current passed through everybody and whistling went on in full flow.. But, it was when 'Ninna Poojege bande mahadeshwara' part came that whistling and screaming went out of the roof.. Towards the end of the trailer, they show the title 'PSYCHO'.. Even during that people were whistling like mad.. This is just an indication of the craze that PSYCHO has generated.. IT WOULD TAKE A MEGA OPENING FOR SURE.. I am waiting like hell for PSYCHO..

Maadesha - not another OM or Jogi

Watched MAADESHA at UMA 1PM show today.. We reached the theatre at 12.50PM thinking that we might have to buy the tickets in black.. But, to our surprise balcony tickets were available and we got 3 seats from the last row.. Even second class tickets were easily avialable and before the movie started, it was 70% filled.. This was a dissapointment for me personally as I would have loved to pay in black and watch this movie for all the hype it had gathered over the past 2-3 months..
Coming to the movie, thought it's been technically well done with some fine performances from the lead artists, it offers nothing new on the content.. It's the same old mundane rowdyism stuff that we have watched in 100s of movies earlier.. It comes nowhere near masterpieces like OM & JOGI..
The saving grace of the movie is it's pacy narration.. Though the first half is a bit dragging and dull except for that exhilerating petrol bunk fight.. But, it's the second half of the movie with the introduction of Ravi KaaLe picks up dramatically and moves on towards an interesting climax..
On the acting front, Shivraj as MAADESHA is as usual at his best.. He simply sleepwalks thorugh this role.. Ravi kaaLe as DCP and Muni as Shivraj's ally are top notch.. But, it's RAVI BELAGERE as a comedian villain who steals the show.. In the second half, he gives a new lease of life into the movie with his unusual dialogue delivery, hystrionics and mannerisms.. Audience were in splits for most part of second half due to Ravi BeLagere's dialogues.. The pick of the lot is the scene wherein he meets DCP Ashok Kumar..
As far as dialogues were punchy throughout the movie.. Some samples are
'elle iru hEge iru maadeshan boundary inda doora iru'
'ee khaakhi haakkondorella nan kaNNge heNadaga gaadi OdsOr thara kaaNsthaare.. ivnobne gands thara kandiddu'
'nam thaayi mEl obba kaNNa haakiddakke, idee nanjan goode nanjaaithu.. innu nan thaayi kaNNeer haako thara aadre, ee bangalore e bendu hOgatthe..'

Coming back to the film again.. Somehow it looked as though the film lacked the required effectivness (punch) right from the beginning scene.. Mother-son sentiment scenes were not engaging.. Heroine and the love episodes were completely unnecessary and so are the songs.. 2-3 songs could have been simply cut ..

The part of the movie after MAADESHA comes back after 14 years jail imprisonment back to his mother and the reason that he gives to move to Bangalore are not convincing.. Even the reason given by Madesha to give himself a shot at the DON's post is also not convincing and lacks substance.. The part of the movie after the bunk fight episode until Madesha gets elevated to the DON post is disjointed with no connectivity.. The song 'Yaao kattiddu yaaro', which tries to show step by step growth of Madesha as an Underworld Don of Bangalore comes minutes within the Munjaane Maanjaagu song in the first half and film fails to pick up the tempo here and also leads to some confusion.. Censor cuts might have affected here somewhat ..

Both in OM and JOGI, the songs were the major highlights and were apt to the situation or in fact carried the theme or a part of the story along with them.. But, in Madesha all the songs are a misfit.. 'Lahari mOha Lahari' and 'Munjaane Manjaagu' have been shot at some sizzling locations abroad..

Despite all these drawbacks there are many aspects in the movie which might appeal to the mass audience..
1. Some amazing action sequences
2. Shivrajkumar's acting
3. Surprise package Ravi BeLagere's rib tickling acting
4. Seetharam's terrific camera work
5. Richness in the movie
6. Mass punchy dialogues..

Over all the movie is good if you are an action movie lover.. I had liked Sudeeps' gooli and liked this one too.. I don't know what Ravi Srivathsa was trying to convey with this movie.. It's high time he comes out of his obsession with Underworld subjects.. He has to come out with something fresh like Mungaaru maLe, Duniya, Moggina Manasu etc., .. He has immense potential to deliver something really innovative and path breaking.. The only thing he needs to do is to concentrate on some saner subjects..

Sangama - Golden Star Ganesh's next movies Audio releasing shortly

Golden Star Ganesh's next movie Sangama's Audio is releasing shortly.. Since Bombaat seems to be going down heavily, all eyes are now set on Ganesh's Sangama..
Some non kannada industry music Devi Prasad is composing music for the movie.. Ravi Verma is the director of the movie..

Mussanje Maathu a classy century

Mussanje Maathu, one of the few movies which had me in tears constantly throughout the movie is celebrating 100 days today.. This movie deserves it completely..
Though the movie received mixed reviews in the initial few weeks, it managed to overcome it through some mind blowing music by the debutant V.Sridhar, excellent performances by Sudeep & Ramya, sensible & heart touching narration & family subject..
Debutant director Mahesh has to be applauded for choosing such a neat but yet innovative subject for his first movie..

Phoonk released - Sudeep's excellent performance

Sudeep's Hindi Movie PHOONK is getting released today .. Huge expectations from my side on this movie.. I am really proud that a kannada actor is acting in a Hindi Movie that too under RGV's banner.. Sudeep is sure to go places after this movie.. He is a Monster talent wasting his time in worthless remakes in Kannada .. Hope PHOONK gives much needed lift to his career..
Positive reviews are poring in for PHOONK & SUDEEP ... It looks like every review is praising SUDEEP's acting and also the movie.. This might open the floodgates for SUDEEP to reach greater heights in BOLLYWOOD.. I am really excited..
Read through this review From INDIAFM.com
The great debate between science and superstition continues, but RGV's new film PHOONK tilts in favour of superstition. Surprising, isn't it?The makers of the film had organized a contest. You'd be given a handsome reward if you've the courage to watch PHOONK all alone in a theatre, we're told.
Honestly speaking, PHOONK isn't scary by any standards, but as a subject, it works big time because somewhere deep within us, we've heard of the power of the unknown. Whether you're superstitious or not, you may've heard tales/experiences concerning jaadu tona. And you're all eyes and ears the moment someone comes up with an alibi.
PHOONK is easily amongst RGV's finest works [although BHOOTH was scarier] and it holds your attention all through. As a viewer, you're keen to know how RGV would culminate this story. The culmination, of course, would meet with extreme reactions. Some would rubbish it, but the believers might endorse the finale. In my individualistic opinion, it's outstanding! All said, PHOONK is a fantastic experience. The subject -- black magic -- is its biggest star and that alone would ensure House Full boards outside plexes/cinemas. Rajeev [Sudeep], a successful construction engineer, with a loving wife and two children, is an atheist to the core. He scowls at people who believe in the dark forces, till one day when an evil is let loose in his happy home, which threatens to destroy his family and shake up the very foundations of his convictions and beliefs. Thanks to the hype and curiosity generated around the movie, you expect to be scared from Scene 1 itself. And RGV emphasises on lighting and artefacts, besides an eccentric woman [Ashwini Kalsekar], to create the right atmosphere. Of course, you do get the jhatkas in a scene or two, but you don't clasp your hands tightly even once, nor does your heart goes dhak-dhak at a lightening speed. Gradually, RGV plays with the camera [excellent camerawork by Savita Singh] and sound [Kunal Mehta, Parikshit Lalwani] to heighten the impact. Like all RGV films, the camera angles bear the unmistakable RGV stamp, while the background score [Bapi-Tutul] takes an ordinary scene to the next level.
RGV is back with a bang. There's a certain consistency from start to end and this time, he gets the right subject to prove his detractors wrong. Every sequence bears the stamp of a genius that RGV is, hits and flops notwithstanding.
The performances are uniformly good. Sudeep impresses you with an excellent performance. Amruta Khanvilkar is efficient. Baby Ahsaas Channa makes a strong impression. Ashwini Kalsekar is top notch. Zakir Hussain's tantric act is superb. Ganesh Yadav lends good support. K.K. Raina and Lilette Dubey, both doctors, are competent. Kenny Desai, Anu Ansari and the actress enacting the role of Sudeep's mother are perfect.
On the whole, PHOONK is a fascinating cinematic experience on a subject that's rarely tackled by the dream merchants in Bollywood: Black magic. The subject itself is the biggest star of the film, which would ensure a flying start at the box-office and in turn, prove a jackpot for its producers who've distributed the film themselves.
